"Well, allow me to introduce myself to you as an advocate of Ornamental Knowledge. You like the mind to be a neat machine, equipped to work efficiently, if narrowly, and with no extra bits or useless parts. I like the mind to be a dustbin of scraps of brilliant fabric, odd gems, worthless but fascinating curiosities, tinsel, quaint bits of carving, and a reasonable amount of healthy dirt. Shake the machine and it goes out of order; shake the dustbin and it adjusts itself beautifully to its new position."

~ Robertson Davies (Canadian journalist and author. 1913-1995)

Kingston, my brother of seven, calls me on my phone today crying. this is strange because i have never really seen him upset. he's really independent and self-confident. he told me the new little miniture pomeranian puppy my mom got fell off the counter, broke it's neck, and died three minutes later. this is the first time my siblings have really delt with death. who knows, there might be a purpose to this yet. my step-dad has cancer and my mom told me today it's spread to his liver. i don't think my siblings fully grasp this yet. pray for them. i think they are going to start growing up a little faster than they want to.

"The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn"

~David Russell (August 25, 1942)

You know those periods in your life were you're ready to move on to the next level and those around you aren't. I've come to a point were it feels like in order to grow i have to trim my social tree. It's disappointing and sad because some of the closest people to me were no longing helping me run the race but actually slowing me down. I didn't actually burn these bridges down i just stopped making them a major thoroughfare . . . And life goes on.

EVER WONDER?

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin ?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed? !

Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? < BR>

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

It Couldn't Be Done

Somebody said that it couldn't be done, But he with a chuckle replied That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that; At least no one ever has done it"; But he took off his coat and he took off his hat, And the first thing we knew he'd begun it. With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin, Without any doubting or quiddit, He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done, There are thousands to prophesy failure; There are thousands to point out to you, one by one, The dangers that wait to assail you. But just buckle in with a bit of a grin, Just take off your coat and go to it; Just start to sing as you tackle the thing That "cannot be done," and you'll do it."
